Digital Storytelling

Communicate clearly and cogently…

Create and interpret ideas using various modes of representation…

Explore and experience various modes of creative expression...

Digital storytelling practices are among the unique ways that students develop their capacities for communication, creativity, and expression–central to Muhlenberg College’s academic program goals.

Digital storytelling practices invite students to construct meaning through the interplay of multiple modes of expression including text, image, audio, video, and transmedia.

Faculty are integrating digital storytelling practices in courses in Media and Communication, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Psychology, History, Intergroup Dialogue, Sustainability Studies, and more. The Digital Learning Team frequently offers digital storytelling workshops for faculty and staff, and for local organizations seeking to understand the possibilities for digital storytelling in community-based contexts.

“Digital writing is not simply a matter of integrating new tools into an unchanged repertoire of writing processes. Rather, digital writing today is about the dramatic changes in the ecology of writing and communication — what it means to create, compose, and share. In short, digital writing is a mode of thinking.”
