At Muhlenberg College, we have developed a distinctive model for pedagogical development in online learning, grounded in our liberal arts mission. Since 2014, Digital Learning has offered a spring pedagogical learning community to inspire and support faculty who are reimagining and redeveloping their courses for blended and online formats. To date, more than 30 faculty have completed the “Excellence in Online Learning in the Liberal Arts” program.
All faculty interested in teaching blended and online courses at Muhlenberg complete the faculty development program, typically offered in spring semester and concluding just before the start of the first summer session. Most blended and online courses are offered during summer sessions. The program introduces participants to online learning theories, principles of inclusive course design, and pedagogical practices that promote liberal arts learning within online spaces. Faculty who have completed this program consistently share that they value collaboration with their peers, instructional design consultants, technologists and library specialists.
Faculty interested in participating in the Spring 2021 learning community to develop and teach an online course for Summer 2021 should watch for a call for proposals in late fall semester or contact Lora Taub (lorataub@muhlenberg.edu).
